Learn About Whole Being Wellness Coaching

Functional medicine aims to find the root cause of illness, rather than just covering up symptoms with medication. This is done by looking at the whole person; their nutrition, stress level, movement/exercise habits, environment, sleep patterns, and so on.


A functional medicine health coach also delves into these areas with their client, exploring the many lifestyle contributors or hinderances to their overall well being. This is done not as a clinician, but as one who walks along with you in the process. We utilize tools to help you focus on areas that may often go unnoticed or ignored. It is done in an explorative, non-judgmental setting, where you are in the driver’s seat. 

A health coach can be a vital resource in your wellness team. Often, your doctor may have goals they've set for you, and a plan for how you will get there.  This can be a bit daunting at times, with nutrition plans to follow and lifestyle changes to make. Your health coach serves as a guide in making sense of where you want to go, and helps you find the tools that work best. In a sense, we serve as a bridge and translator between you and your doctor.


My job as your coach is to help you find YOUR  path towards sustainable, lifelong change and put it into action. Recognizing that each of us is different, and what works for one may not have the same effect on someone else. It’s about finding your unique formula towards optimal health.  As I learned in my own journey, recovering from illness or poor health doesn’t happen overnight, but learning which incremental changes you can make and build upon ultimately moves you into a state of greater health. I am not an expert telling you to “do this, eat that, work out like this…” Instead, I listen to your concerns, priorities, and goals that you have for yourself, and we work together to discover your motivation, navigate any obstacles, and re-evaluate as needed.  


Successful behavior change is generally recognized as taking 3 months to take hold. Therefore, it is highly recommended that work with a health coach is done during this length of time. Depending on the person and scope of work to be done, some may want to meet weekly, and for others a bi-weekly session works best.
